About Me/My interests: I bring a unique set of experiences to pediatric psycho-oncology. I have a doctorate in Public Health/epidemiology and clinical experience in Traditional Chinese Medicine/acupuncture. I am currently a Research Scientist doing epidemiological research at the Public Health Institute in Oakland, California and am Assistant Clinical Professor of Nursing at the University of California, San Francisco. Current projects include: using Childhood Cancer Survivor Study (CCSS) data to study alcohol use among siblings of children with cancer; studying multiple risky health behaviors including tobacco and alcohol use, obesity, physical activity and use of long-term follow-up care among childhood and young adult cancer survivors in relation to emotional distress and resilience; a longitudinal study of psychological distress and tobacco use in Childhood cancer survivors from the CCSS, randomized-control pilot of acupressure for improved symptom management in children receiving stem cell transplants and multiple and clustered risky health behaviors in a national household sample of adults. I am a co-investigator for a COG/CureSearch project creating a website to provide patient/family/community education on psychosocial issues related to childhood cancer. I am also member of the Patient Advocacy Committee of the Children’s Oncology Group and I serve on the Research Advisory Board of SuperSibs!, an organization that provides care and support for siblings of childhood cancer survivors.
