About Me/My interests: My research goals center on the need to understand the determinants of health behavior to improve health communication initiatives. The common theme throughout my research has been the application of social marketing toward the promotion of improved communication between patients and providers concerning use of and access to health care services. I have developed a line of research that focuses on improving patient- physician communication by understanding the barriers and benefits of health care service use from the perspective of both the patient/consumer and the physician. For the past ten years, my research program has applied these principles to health communication in the context of: Fertility Preservation, Cancer Genetics Services (including Pre-Implantation Genetic Diagnoses), and Quality of Life issues in Pediatric, Adolescent & Young Adult Cancer Populations, and Cancer Clinical Trials (including minority barriers to participation
