The Division of Pediatric Psychiatry and Psychology in the Department of Pediatrics at Akron Children’s Hospital is pleased to announce an opening for a pediatric psychologist specializing in the assessment and treatment of children and adolescents with chronic disease, and could include particular focus in diabetes , palliative care, sleep, feeding. The position involves development of pediatric psychology programs within outpatient hospital specialty clinics in which the psychologist would function as a member of an interprofessional team. Strong collaboration skills for working with physicians, nurses, social workers and other health care professionals are essential. Opportunities may exist for inpatient consultation/liaison services specific to the patient population served by the specialty clinics. Experience with evidence-based assessment and cognitive-behavioral intervention strategies are essential.
Teaching/training opportunities are provided, including supervision of postdoctoral pediatric psychology fellows and predoctoral pediatric psychology trainees as well as teaching of pediatric residents and child psychiatry fellows. Research interest is supported and desired.
Requirements include a doctorate degree (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) in clinical psychology (child or pediatric emphasis preferred) from an APA-accredited doctoral program, completion of an APA-accredited internship (child or pediatric emphasis preferred), license eligibility in the State of Ohio, and a strong interest in pediatric psychology within a hospital setting. Applicants who have completed a post-doctoral fellowship in pediatric psychology and/or who have hospital-based professional experience are preferred.
