Description:
The assessment of psychological symptoms and the diagnosis and management of common psychiatric syndromes seen in children and adolescents with cancer will be taught to students in the context of patients and families seen by the psychiatry staff in the pediatric oncology setting. The student will be given familiarity with liaison issues, a continuity consultation model, and problems of pediatric oncology staff in dealing with children who have cancer and their families. Basic theories of child and adolescent psychiatry and consultation liaison psychiatry will be reviewed accompanied by hands-on exposure to and study of inpatient and outpatient pediatric oncology as a social system.
Requirements:
(Other than 3rd year rotations.) Upon receipt of a completed application, a telephone interview with the student may be requested.
